SVENSKA DAGBLADET / DYNASTIN

The Dynasty
The podcast series “The Dynasty” (Dynastin) gives a closer look at one of Sweden’s most powerful families, the family Stenbeck. “The Dynasty” offers an exclusive insight into the family, behind closed doors. The story has been described as a backward “Succession”, despite Jan’s wish for his children to become hungry businessmen and women, at present none of them run the family company. Why is that? Through portraits of the children of Jan Stenbeck, and interviews with Jan’s advisors, friends, business partners and former directors, a story about death, secret siblings, addiction, and shame unravels.

Background
Jan Stenbeck was one of the founding fathers of the Swedish media infrastructure. After the death of his father and brother, he took over the family-owned investment company Kinnevik and turned it into an empire. Launching Sweden’s first commercial TV-channel (TV3) and commercial telecom company (Comviq), Stenbeck managed his way past the media monopoly and became one of Sweden’s most wealthy people. When Jan Stenbeck unexpectedly died in a heart attack in 2002, his young children had to take command over his empire. At the same time, they learned that they had an unknown half brother.
