MÅRTEN GISBY is a Stockholm based screenwriter and author born and raised in Lund, Sweden. He has a background in the film industry as a first assistant director, and was one of the founders of the Malmö-based poetry collective Littosfären. 

In 2017 Mårten graduated from the screenwriting programme at Vancouver Film School, with special honors from the faculty. Since then, he has developed scripts for feature films and television series for producers in Canada, the United States and Sweden.

He also wrote the acclaimed fantasy novel Alba and the Land Beyond (Alba och landet Bortom, Bonnier Carlsen 2021), and its two sequels. The first book was nominated for both the Swedish Writer’s Union’s debutante award Slangbellan and Swedish Radio’s Children’s Book Award.

Mårten loves a good thriller, but doesn’t limit himself when it comes to genre or format, and will happily switch between genres: from horror to comedy to gritty crime drama. In Mårten’s work you will find character-driven, fast-paced stories with crisp and clever dialogue and unexpected turns.

The past four years Mårten worked as an inhouse writer, at Pagale Content Development and Scandinavian Content Group, where he wrote and developed a number of film and tv-projects. 

His latest project, the horror feature CAROUSEL starring Young Royals’ actor Omar Rudberg (dir: Simon Sandquist) premieres in cinemas in October 2023 and follows a group of 20-year-olds who get trapped in an amusement park and hunted down by a vengeful serial killer.

Mårten is currently working on two new feature films, both being developed by two of Sweden's largest production companies.
